Designing Model

The second stage was designing a model and based on the model selecting the correct construction elements.

In the beginning we used the software "Solid Edge" to design our first model. The first model had 1m wide shelves, later we narrowed it down to 0,5m.

Using "Solid Edge" was intuitive because we already worked with it previously. Next we started selecting the profile element for the metal structure. Based on the recommendation of the university's technician we chose to use Bosch Rexroth profiles, because they were easy to assemble and the technician already had experience with that.
Once we began looking for all the components: plexiglass, metal, attachments (bolts, nuts, corners) we found out that Bosch has their own software specially designed for building
similar systems. It is called MTPro and it allows to directly import existing and sold components when designing a model. This way all the distances and dimensions are exact. Also it allows to export a component list of every used element in the model and send it directly to the company. The software was very buggy and it took a while to get familiar with all the functions, but in the end it was a good solution because it was certain that everything will fit perfectly.

We adjusted some of the design elements to simplify the building process and to minimize used material to lower the costs. The out-standing shelf design was removed and instead a regular closet design was adopted. Also the shelf design was adjusted:  narrowed and used less metal profiles to hold it together.
